Writer's Block

When do you typically start shopping for holiday gifts? Do you usually wind up buying stuff at the last minute?

View 543 Answers

Ah, another gloriously uninspired Writer's Block.

I'm not going shopping today. I have better things to do than deal with the urge to kick and shove thick, surging hordes of people out of my way. I'll start shopping on the internet soonish.

On another note, twelve days...

Amy is the most awesome character ever.

(9:57:46 PM) Good Witch: I think I've written Amy enough
(9:58:08 PM) Good Witch: her life is like a chaotic whirlwind of borderline sex, booze, drugs, alcoholism and magic
(9:58:18 PM) Good Witch: and lesbianism
(9:58:34 PM) Good Witch: and booze
(9:59:11 PM) Z: It's like LA.
(9:59:22 PM) Good Witch: there's magic in LA?

Seriously, I've been writing for this character all day. Finished the first draft of "God" (which I'm sure needs some cleanup, since I wrote it while stoned on caffeine and sleep deprivation), wrote seven pages worth of "Shadows" (a new one), and wrote an entire five-page short-short. Conclusion: Amy is fantastically entertaining and also tiring to write for.

Of course, a lot of the tiredness was assisted by the fact that I barely slept last night.

Writer's Block

Have you seen New Moon? If so, how do you think it compared to the book? Was it better or worse than Twilight? Please, no spoilers!

Oh, for the love of nuts. I have to say some things.

I do not hate Stephanie Meyer personally. Stephanie Meyer is not the one responsible for the problems that underlie the Twilight phenomenon. Stephanie Meyer is a woman who took advantage of those problems, did something incredibly self-indulgent, and profited big time.

Stephanie Meyer is not the one who made teenage girls shallow and dependent on the approval of guys, and she is not the one who made these girls driven to controlling, dangerous bastards. Stephanie Meyer is one of those girls. That is why Twilight exists at all.

I hate Stephanie Meyer's work because:

1. It exemplifies what I hate about the demographic to which it appeals.

2. It is a work of utter, self-indulgent crap, and it made the woman rich.

That's what it boils down to.

TRC (Truly Ridiculously Crazy)

I have Tsubasa 23 and 24 and xXxHolic 14. Unfortunately, I also have very little time to read them and $40 less than I had before I went out today.

Started Tsubasa 23. I'll go into detail later, but thus far it's just as insane as one might expect. It's times like these when I'm absolutely convinced that manga-ka just make shit up as they go along. Yes, even if they're CLAMP.

Edit: Okay, it went a bit like this. )

Writer's Block: Message in a bottle

What three items would you place in a time capsule to help future generations understand you?

First: Who am I going to be, that future generations would care about understanding me? Will I be somebody so significant yet enigmatic that they will dig up the time capsule and cry, "Thank God! She left us a clue!"

Seriously though. I'd just put a few of my stories in there. Maybe three flash drives with all the stories on them. Or all the stories plus a bunch of porn, to make them wonder.

buh?

Bizarro dreams about Rakkyo 7 officially started.

I tend to forget why I'm not writing my dreams down these days, until I have one. Then I remember that it's because they're so muddled and whacky that they wouldn't make sense even if I did.

Murder Comedy

Tonight while I was writing Murder Mystery, this happened:

Caroline: Let's pretend to be lesbian girlfriends so the boys stop hitting on us!

Eva: Uh, no...

Thank goodness for Eva. Caroline is a little too whacky.

NaNoWriMo started. Check out the awesome synopsis I wrote for Seven. Also, I've made an unfortunate discovery: When I'm in a hurry, all I write is dialogue. Hurk.

I really wanna try to take it easy this month. Kara no Kyoukai 7 is out on December ninth and I don't want to be dead/insane by then.

me and you

Currently:

(1) I'm going to give my boss my two weeks' tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing whether she's confused, upset, pleased, accepting, whatever. Actually I'm not looking forward to it. But I'm going in anyway.

(2) I have four clients. Two of them are paying me with money.

(3) I wrote a bunch of "Eyes", "God" and "Junk" last night. I neglected to mention before that "Junk" is getting a lot of attention lately. What makes me sad about it is that (1) it refuses to progress in a linear fashion and (2) the MC probably can't keep his name if I ever want to publish the thing.

(4) Planning to at least try NaNo.

(5) Class this noon. Even class feels like it's taking too much time from my design projects. Then again, I don't require much stimulation to be stressed.

(6) Had a bizarre dream last night, again. Some couple had been waiting in an abandoned boxcar since the Victorian age, as they thought they'd been told to go there to find something. When I came in, they started trying to get birds (first a gray one and then a white one) to tell them where they were really supposed to go. I think there was a dog too. I wish my dreams were a bit more vivid.

just wondering

A Mary Sue is a wish fulfillment character. She is a stand-in for the author, a way for an author to act out her own desires, the way she wants her life to be. Bella Swan is a good example; she's a klutzy, cute, supposedly intelligent little bookworm with a dreamy boyfriend. Mary Sues tend to be flat, not really flawed, just puppets for the author to have things her way.

So here's what I wonder: If what an author wants is to be a cold, arrogant, slightly evil bitch, and she creates a character like that to act out her desire - is it possible for that character to be a Mary Sue, too?

hey guys

I'm quitting my job soon. That means Operation: Graphic Designer is going all-out. Finding clients, working for clients and promoting myself is gonna be my full-time job from now on.

Like my design and wanna help out? You can become a fan of my service on Facebook. If you do, I will send love beams your way. And I don't use my love beams very often, so they're very concentrated.

Writer's Block: So funny I forgot to laugh

If a friend cracks a corny joke, do you force yourself to laugh politely? What about if it's your boss or teacher? Do you get annoyed if someone else pretends to be amused?

Usually, I don't laugh unless I want to. If I force a laugh it comes out like "He. He. He" which sounds sarcastic whether I mean it to or not. None of this makes me very popular.

I don't care if someone else pretends to be amused, but if they actually think it's funny, then yes, I'll be annoyed. I'm a jerk like that.

This is the end.

No matter what happens. I'm gonna stop being a coward.

It's over.
